Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for prayerful discernment of the dance of Spirit, clarifying one's process with a qualified Spiritual Director which brings about greater understanding of the unfolding of the Divine Mystery in one's life.

Spiritual Direction has been a part of the Catholic tradition ever since the first desert mothers and fathers sought one another out for counsel as early as the 3rd century. Hildegard of Bingen and Julian of Norwich elevated it to a high art during medieval times. Today spiritual direction continues to be a highly valued means of ongoing growth and spiritual deepening.

A spiritual director helps a person come to an awareness of aspects of her/his life that might not otherwise be noticed. It provides an opportunity to examine and reflect on life events, personal experience and/or our relationship to God. It is the work of the spiritual director to listen carefully for the movement of the spirit and to companion the directee in their effort to discover new insights and understandings. The spiritual director assists in enabling a person to move toward greater freedom and wholeness.

Individual sessions can be scheduled directly with one of the Spiritual Directors at the Christine Center.
